PR Sreejesh emerged as the hero of the penalty shootouts, leading India to a 4-2 victory over Great Britain and securing a spot in the semifinals of the men’s hockey event on Sunday, August 4. The match concluded 1-1 in regular time, with India playing most of the three quarters with 10 men following Amit Rohidas’s red card. Sreejesh’s crucial save against Philip Roper, combined with Rajkumar Pal’s decisive goal, capped a remarkable performance, marking India’s second consecutive advancement to the Olympic semifinals.

Harmanpreet Singh initially gave India the lead in the 22nd minute before Lee Morton equalised.

The match proceeded to a penalty shootout to determine the winner. Albery scored for Great Britain, while Harmanpreet Singh equalised for India. Wallace put Great Britain ahead again, but Sukhjeet levelled the score at 2-2. Williamson missed his attempt for Great Britain, giving Lailit Upadhyay the chance to put India in the lead, which he did. Sreejesh then made a decisive save against Roper, and Rajkumar Pal secured the victory for India. India will now face either Argentina or Germany in the semifinals.
