‘Take off’; Couple Got married at Dublin Airport

A couple got married at the foyer of the Old Central Terminal in the Dublin Airport as their wedding plans were cancelled as part of Covid 19 restrictions.

French couple Nico and Justine Buhler, who have been living in Ireland for 18 months,  were married at the airport.

They had been due to be wed on 24 April but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Their wedding licence and paperwork are to be expired at the end of October.

After several failed attempts in finding wedding locations the couple requested the Dublin Airport to make avail the place as the wedding venue.

The airport offered them the opportunity to get married outside the airport’s original terminal building, built in 1940.

Due to the wet weather ceremony was carried out inside the foyer. The ceremony was small owing to the public health guidelines. The couple said that though they wished their family could have been there they were not ready to put them under risk.

Justine said that they were hoping to marry that day since it was their fifth anniversary.

The spokesperson for DAA noted that they were delighted to make the couple happy.

He also added that the Dublin airport is celebrating its 80th anniversary and it was fitting that the marriage was taking place in the iconic 1940s building which symbolises the connection between Ireland and the rest of the world for over 80 years.

“Many of life’s events happen at the airport – we have had a birth, an engagement, we have saved over 30 lives through our defibrillator programme and today was our first wedding (that wasn’t in the airport’s church).”
