Taoiseach Simon Harris to Join Global Leaders at the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland

Taoiseach Simon Harris will join dozens of world leaders at a peace summit in Switzerland this weekend, aimed at charting a path to peace in Ukraine. Nearly 90 countries will be represented at the two-day event, including Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders from France, the UK, Germany, and Italy. US Vice President Kamala Harris and an Indian delegation will also attend, though China, a significant global power, will be absent. Russia was not invited.

Ahead of the summit, Mr. Harris emphasised the need to hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine and reiterated Ireland’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Discussions will focus on upholding international law, nuclear safety, food security, and other humanitarian issues. Mr. Harris will participate in a session addressing the human impact of the conflict, including the return of unlawfully displaced Ukrainian children. He stressed the importance of clear global principles underpinning any future peace process, aligning with the UN Charter and international law.
